7 Important Grilling Tips Big John and I have 7 very important grilling tips to
A few months ago we bred a number of our gilts. We bred 2 Berkshires to Barry a Red Wattle. We bred 5 Durocs to Barney a Berkshire Boar, and 2 other Berkshires to Barney.
The Berkshires had their piglets with no problem. They farrowed and were running around the next day. But I have to say that we had many problems with the Durocs.
The first Duroc had her litter without a problem. She even farrowed in the woods and with the heat we left her there. A few days later she came out of the woods with her babies. It was really cute to see the beige piglets with black dots.
Then the problems began with the second Duroc her piglets did not make it. The third and fourth Duroc had their piglets and they are doing well. Yesterday Terry found the fifth Duroc in the woods and she was not having an easy time with her litter. Terry had to assist with the farrowing, and he did a superb job. The sow is doing well and the piglets are flourishing.
John and I were really spoiled with the first six litters. The Berkshires did really well and they did not need any assistance. They are also good moms. If you are going to pasture raise pigs they are the way to go.
